“Collective Guilt of the Mandingoes,” A Nerve-racking Signal

Introduction:
I am bamboozled about the prospect of Liberia and life span of the comparative peace we enjoy today, in the wake of the unveiling seed of conflict being geminated in the country against the Mandingoes, especially recent development regarding a purported catches of ammunition found in the abandoned home of one Mr. Mohammed Sheriff in Gbarga, Bong County, triggering an all out protest against the Mandingoes. The United Nation Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) must be applauded for her swift interruption in calming and deterring the situation that would have ended up in a blood bath quashing our gain in the restoration of peace in the Country.
Unanswered Questions:
Where are we heading as Liberian in the wake of our deep-seated hatred against a particular group of people? Why didn’t the people of Nimba County go against the family of Hon. George Koukou when it was announced that he was involved in subversive activities? Whey didn’t the Grand Gedean go after the family of Gen. Charles Julu when his name was mentioned with the subversive plot? I might not be around, but I am worry about the future, especially, the brute dislike and monstrous machination to annihilate a particular group of people.
Granted even, if it was true that bags of purported ammunitions were found in this Mandingoes man abandoned building, does that make him guilty of any crime in the absence of the due process? The answer is an explicit no. Hypothetically, granted that he went to court and found guilty, does that give any one the latitude to collectively target all of the Mandingoes in Gbarnga and other areas simultaneously? Why the deep-seated hatred and how do we remedy the situation? These are the burning questions. Why only our people? It was our understanding that those who are bend on causing confusion would have understood that we are strong people with the ability to thwart any attack. Why wouldn’t they understand this elementary reality? It was the same thing they did that led to the military adventure of the Mandingo, culminating in the unsympathetic removal of Charles Taylor and his entire tentacles.
Why it is true that Government announced that the purported arms were mere empty shells is good news in that it will help to reduce the tension against our people in Gbarga, Ganta and surrounding areas that were very tense following the announcement. Gauging the chaotic state we fine our self in, it is vital that government is careful when it comes to the dissemination of information that have the propensity to cause havoc in the Country.
Dynamic of Concern:
Why was it like a war rehearsal when it was announced that ammunitions were found in the unfinished building of one Mr. Mohammed Sheriff? Why did people go amok in readiness to attack the Mandingoes? The “Central Mosques of Gbarga” and other business centers and homes of the Mandingoes were all under immediate threat. People were seen gathering, taking cutlasses, sticks and other instrument in readiness for an all out assault. At the same time, in neighboring Nimba, people started gathering in readiness to get rid of the remaining Mandingoes that have weathered the storm to live in Nimba County. Near by towns and villages up to Monrovia were tense with the storm of vengeance and the desire to settle score with our people. Had it not been for the rapid deployment of the “United Nation Peace Keeper” things would have been disastrous.
Warning to the Belligerent Forces:
While it is true that we don’t want any more conflict, nevertheless, it must be noted that self-defense is universally accepted. It is not in any one interest to go back to war footing. It must be made cleared to our enemies and those who want to inflame the seed of unity, that we have the means to defend our selves if attacked with a more reciprocal formidable force that will deter any further attack. If our people could humiliate the like of Taylor, and others, it can do again, if the need be. Please leave our people alone. A hint to the wise is sufficient. Allow a sleeping dog to lie since you can’t win any such war with the Mandingoes.
