Introduction:

Entering home last night taking my usual nap, a close political colleague of mine Ms. Mapea Gono broke the news to me that Hon. Musa Bility, the Chairman of the Board of the National Port Authority and head of the “Mandingo Caucus of Liberia” had been unceremoniously transferred to the chairmanship of the “Liberia Water and Sewage Corporation” as per the President Directive. It was a shock in that no one thought that with the level of closeness between the President and Hon. Musa Bility, such would have happen at this time with out even consultation. But what really happened? Did he fall from grace with the President?

Brief Insight of Mr. Bility:

Musa Bility has been a staunch and dedicated friend of the President who went extra miles during the heat of the campaign along with other prominent Mandingoes in advocating for the Presidency of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He was greatly fought by the community for calling on Mandingoes to pledge their support and cast their ballots for the President. He defended the platform of the President to the Mandingo Community amidst opposition. He is noted to have used his vast media empire both radio and television in selling the ideals of the Ellen Campaign.

Concerns:

Since the sudden announcement, I have been receiving calls from the community about the abrupt removal of the young party stalwart of the Unity Party, especially, the only symbolic representation of the Mandingo Community. We are perturbed that he was transferred at a time when he was embarking upon major facelift initiatives to the port that could benefit the country greatly. Why was he removed when he had just held consultative meeting with the leadership? Again, this is a nerve-racking signal amidst his removal. We have been concerned about the lack of representation in the Ellen Government. Despite our efforts leading to her ascendancy, there isn’t any significant representation in this Government. At the formative stage of the party, we were made to understand that the President would have become lenient with equal treatment, which is not the case now. Looking at the roles and services of the brother, many contemplated from the formative stage of this government that he would have been sent to one those vibrant entities like “Maritime or the LPRC or the RIA”, where he could have become more serviceable. However, upon his appointment to the Port Chairmanship, we were at least pleased, that in as much he couldn’t financially help any one as Chairman of the Board, but symbolically he was a reflection of the Mandingoes aspiration in the Ellen Government.

Hon. Musa Bility was ostracized by the community for the blanket declaration of support to this President putting every thing he had labored for at risk. Lucky him, she won, or would have paid the price greatly. Considering what he went through, I don’t think he deserves this sort of transferred at this time. Many considered this as a sort of demotion, if not promotion. It is only the “Stewart, Tubman, Dennis, Allen and Johnson” that are competent to hold strategic areas in Government, with the rest of the indigenous being sent to nominal areas.

Appeal to Musa Bility:

Despite of our political differences, despite not helping me financially when needed same, I stand by you at this time. You don’t deserve this sort of discrimination and selective treatment on the part of this President. Initially, other members of the “Mandingoe Caucus” had thought they would have all been absorbed in the present Government, which became a mere dream. However, they were a bit satisfied and appeased with the symbolic token give to you. Now that this has been taken away where do they stand now? I call on them to be steadfast and law abiding amidst the selective treatment. A hint to the wise is sufficient. I once warned Hon. Bility that he was not safe and there were machination to have him replaced with one of those Americo- Liberians. Again, this is the re-emergence of the Americo-Liberian hegemony.
