Brockton, May 14, 2008: Liberia Speaks, a twice a month public discussion forum to be hosted live via teleconference by the Massachusetts-based Liberian Group, Ltd., kicks off this Friday, May 16, 2008 with guest appearances by the Chairman and President of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), Messrs James N. Larsah and Emmanuel S. Wettee.
Chairman Larsah and President Wettee will discuss the relevance of ULAA to the collective unity, peace, and progress of Liberians residing in the United States, as well as current efforts being undertaken by ULAA to bring all Liberian communities together under one umbrella organization to provide employment assistance, legal and immigration assistance, educational assistance, and related social services to the growing population of Liberians in the U.S.
Chairman Larsah and President Wettee will also discuss the outcome of the May 3, 2008 ULAA Board meeting in Detroit, Michigan, and what the final resolution at the Detroit Board meeting means for the future of ULAA. The Detroit meeting, among other things, entertained the idea of future elections of the president and other executive officers of ULAA through direct popular vote by ULAA members, but settled for implementation of the 2004 ULAA Election Law, which calls for the election rather than appointment of ULAA electoral delegates.
Liberia Speaks will be moderated by Nat G. Gbessagee, a former Liberian Journalist, scholar, social commentator, and Liberian Group official, assisted occasionally by other members of the Liberian Group, Ltd.
Liberians and friends of Liberia residing in the U.S., Liberia, and other parts of the world are invited to participate in both the maiden edition and future editions of Liberia Speaks and ask questions of the guests. The guest appearances of the two ULAA executives, Chairman James N. Larsah and President Emmanuel S. Wettee, on Liberia Speaks will begin promptly at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Please ensure your participation by dialing telephone number 518-825-1300 and the participant access code of 711499 plus pound (#).
