About forty-five mothers were awarded certificates in appreciation of their efforts and role in the community. The association, under the leadership of His Excellency, Musa Kamara, honored the mothers for the first time in its history. Speaking at the start of the ceremony, President Kamara praised the mothers for their tireless support of their families. He stated that his administration will do everything possible to keep the mothers happy. Further, he stressed the need for the association to create a program that will make the mothers actively engaged in the community.

For her part, Minnesota Iron lady, Malama Toure thanked the President, his administration, and the Mandingo community here in Minnesota for taking broad steps to honor the mothers. She said, “We feel very special today for your honor. This is another excellent step of your good leadership skills. We have never been recognized as mothers like you did today. We welcome and accept your appreciation Mr. President.”

Fumba Kuyateh, a Criminal Justice student at Minneapolis Community Technical College, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President and the community for showing respect for the Mothers. He disclosed that the current leadership is working in the right direction especially when it comes to embracing everybody regardless of age, gender and status in the community. He concluded by saying that the President should engage the community in fun activities this summer, so that people can know one another in an effort to build cordial and respectful relationships.

Mr. Ahmed Sirleaf, former President of Minnesota Mandingo Association, applauded the current MMA leadership for this historic event. He averred “I am impressed with the new leadership and their decision to recognize and honor our mothers.” He said the event signaled the current administration’s determination to unite the community.
