After thoroughly studying the loopholes of the recent Police Operation launched in Monrovia named and styled “Operation Thunderstorm” aimed at combating the increase wave of armed robbery in Liberia, armed robbers have again regroup in their quest to undermine the purpose of the Police operation Thunderstorm.
Two female inhabitants residing within the Paynesville Telecom community were Wednesday morning raped and robed of their personal belongings by over eight men suspected of carrying cutlasses and arms. According to an eye witness, name withheld, the armed men forcibly entered the rooms of the two victims and demanded valuables and money. The eye witness who was also held hostage by the robbers surrendered her belongings after the robbers knocked her three months old baby with a sharp cutlass.
The witness further disclosed that the girls were screaming and asking the robbers for mercy but their plea met a tough response from the robbers.
The Chairman of the Paynesville Telecom community Mr. Morris Fayiah said the fight against armed robbery is currently taking a confuse dimension in Liberia. He stressed the need to re-establish the community watch team as means of protecting themselves against criminals since the Police and other Para-military security are not capable of ensuring security.
Another group of armed bandits stormed the Stephen Tolbert community over the week and instituted similar acts against vulnerable and armless civilians in that area.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in her previous encounter with the press promised to institute tougher measure aimed at ensuring the protection of peaceful Liberians against armed bandits but her promise is yet to be actualized with mounted complains of armed robbery and rape reported on almost every night.
The National Legislature amended and further strengthens the laws against rape and armed robbery but this seem not to deter the robbers in anyway.
