NTGL ASSURES
MANDINGO CAUCUS

The
President of the National Mandingo Caucus of Liberia, Musa Bility
has announced that following a meeting between his organization and
the Chairman of the NTGL, Charles Gyude Bryant, his organization has
been assured by the Transitional Government that Mandingo will not
be witch-hunt by any government security agency in the aftermath of
the 4-day violence in Monrovia.
Mr.
Bility told a news conference in Monrovia recently that his group
has meanwhile set up a mechanism to prevent and arrest situation of
similar nature in the future. According to him, the meeting with
Chairman Bryant was aimed at registering concern about the manner in
which Mandingo were being resented and branded during the aftermath
of the violence.
He
also disclosed that during the meeting, the National Mandingo Caucus
expressed reservation about remarks made by police Director,
Clarence Massaquoi, that some of those arrested recently in
connection to the violence were those who could not speak English,
linking them to Mandingo ethnic group.
He
said his organization is taken serious exception to the Police
Director's statement. In a related development, The Chairman of the
NTGL, Charles Gyude Bryant yesterday visited areas affected during
the 4-day violence. During his tour, the Liberian Transitional
leader was seen in a sad mood as he drove through Gardnersville and
the Sinkor areas seriously observing damage done during the
violence.
