WASHINGTON, D.C. -September 3, 2010- The United States African Development Foundation has signed five grants totaling US$477,039 to support grassroots groups in Liberia. The grants will benefit Agriculture Relief Services (ARS), Committee for Peace and Development Advocacy, Inc (COPDA). Kokoyah Multipurpose Cooperative and Development Societ (Kokoyah), Mamadee Konneh United Blacksmith Shop, and SAMJAC Agro Industry.

The Carter Center congratulates the Liberian National Legislature for its unanimous passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill. The Carter Center also commends the FOI Consortium, comprised of representatives of more than 10 civil society organizations and government agencies including the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, for its commitment to advancing the right of access to information in Liberia. Access to information is a fundamental human right and critical for development, good governance, and for holding government accountable.

What appears to be a reawaken match is expected to take place between Liberia and Zimbabwe this Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the SKD Sports Complex outside Monrovia. The match is the beginning of the 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifying rounds which Liberia is grouped along with Mali, Cape Verde, and Zimbabwe.

Death Announcement- Ansumana S. Kromah The Kromah and Jabateh families sadly report the sudden death of their father, grand father, brother, uncle, cousin and brother-in-law, Mr. Ansumana Sumayela Kromah of Ganta, Liberia. Mr. Kromah was former commissioner of Revenue at the Ministry of Finance. Mr. Kromah passed away at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Monrovia as a result of a massive stroke attack on August 30, 2010. Mr. Kromah has since been buried in accordance with Islamic principles.
