Contribution Toward Education In Liberia-Ganta United Methodist
Mission School and LTI Benefit

The Liberian Mandingo Association of New York
(LIMANY) has donated over $20,000.00 worth of science and
math equipment to two Liberian institutions so as to assist
math and science curriculums in Liberian as Liberian science
teachers struggle to compete with other science teachers in
the world. The contributions were made on Saturday, August
9, 2008, in the state of Maryland, USA, at the LTI
Alumni Association Reunion Convention
and the Ganta
United Methodist Mission School Alumni Association (GUMMSAA)
Convention.

As President Abraham Turay of LIMANY presented the donation,
he said the “Gift” was the collective efforts
of LIMANY, the I-HELP Liberia Project and ROL. He said LIMANY
hopes the ongoing networking and partnership amongst these
three organizations will be an inspiration to other Liberian
organizations to join the greater cause of humanitarianism
and follow LIMANY'S lead. "The end result of such an
endeavor is that, the Liberian people benefit the most",
he explained.
The Senior Elder of the GUMMSAA, Peter Wehye thanked the officers
and members of LIMANY, saying that this act of kindness is
an inspiration to the GUMMSAA membership will go a long way
in undertaking future projects. " I want to to say this
as a challenge for the entire membership of GUMMSAA to work
harder to help rebuild our dear alma malta. I hope20other
Liberian organizations will 0follow the example of LIMANY
and contribute to the education of the Liberian children.

For her part, the President of LTI Alumni Association, Madame
Yatta Dukuley said that LTI family is very appreciative of
the donation by LIMANY to their school. “The small but
meaningful donation is a start of big and meaningful things
to happen to LTI. Well, we have been inspired and challenged.”
She also said that LIMANY has shown that LTI is a very important
institution, that this surprise donation is an encouragement
to former students to wake up to support this great school
of theirs.
Asumana Jabateh Randolph, the advisor of the I-HELP Liberia
Project at Hunter College High School in New York City, showed
a 10 minutes demonstration of the equipment given to the two
institutions. In his introduction, Mr. Jabateh Randolph thanked
LIMANY for providing the opportunity for American students
to help Liberian students and that networking with LIMANY
has been a blessing. He explained that these data collecting
tools (Vernier Technology) make teaching science easy and
fun. He said that the student will be engaged in doing science.
He emphasized that the technology can do more than 300 different
experiments20in any high school science areas . He promised
that at the request of LIMANY, each of the two institutions
will get 50 lab manuals.
Jabateh, as call by most Liberians, continues to mentor some
of the best young scientists in the US. Two of the students
that Jabateh has mentored have won most prestigious US national
science award. Also he has been honored in Who Is Who American
Teachers four different times.

The high lever LIMANY delegation headed by President Abraham
Turay included the Board Chairman, Hon. Mohammed S. Bility;
Secretary General, Hon. Musa Kamara, Board member and Speaker,
Hon. Mohammed Keita, as well as Board Member and Editor in
Chief of LIMANY, Hon. Asumana Jabateh Randolph.
Mohammed S. Bility, LIMANY'S Board Chairman, who is also a
middle school teacher in New York City, thanked all those
who in some way have contributed to the success of our program,
most especially to the hard working students of Hunter College
High School. “As we continue to remain committed to
the rehabilitation and revitalization of the Liberian school
system, we ask for support from every organizations and associations
in the Diaspora. "Liberia is on the march to reconstruction
and reconciliation. We cannot be mere spectators nor esoteric
in any way. We must join the efforts to resuscitate our nation.
The time for action is now. This is our moment to act. We
would like to thank ACANA, ROL, for all they have done to
keep us focused on the goals we have set."
