Liberia looks to end old leadership dispute
Monrovia - Liberian transitional government chairperson Gyude Bryant moved on Wednesday to end a long-running dispute over leadership of the main rebel Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (Lurd) that has threatened the fragile peace in the west African state.

Monrovia (ICRC) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reunited 644 children with their families – some after a separation of several years – since the civil war ended in Liberia in August 2003. The chaos of armed conflict frequently wrenches apart families who have been forced to flee the fighting. Children are the most vulnerable individuals, often getting lost with no one to take care of them.

TRIBALISM VS. PEACE, WHICH WAY LIBERIANS?
(LIMANY EDITORIAL) There is so much to do in postwar Liberia if we are to achieve genuine peace, and reconciliation. The task at hand is so huge, given the fact that Liberia is still a tensely divided country on factional and ethnic lines. One of the challenging aspects of this is the persistent attitude of tribal prejudice and xenophobia exhibited by most Liberians. Almost always, the Mandingoes are the targets of this ugly attitude and we have seen it too many times before and now.

Kromah Criticizes Immigration Policy
A Mass Communication Instructor at the University and Standard Bearer of the All-Liberia Coalition Party (ALCOP), Alhaji G. V. Kromah last Saturday criticized the immigration policy of the National Transitional Government of Liberia, blaming it on ‘selfish interest and political fears” by its framers.

   Although Kromah, a former rebel leader, did not pinpoint the “selfish interest and petty fears”. He observed that the immigration policy of the Government is always pursuing one group of people, meaning ethnic group.

AN ORGANIZATION FOR THE PROMOTION OF MANDINGOES’ SOCIAL POLITICAL INTERESTS   IS FORMED IN LIBERIA
There is a growing social political awareness among the Mandingoes at home and abroad. One manifestation of that social political awareness is the formation of a group in Liberia called The National Mandingo Caucus Of Liberia. The organization promises to debate and promote the Mandingoes’ social political interests in the country.

LIBERIA-SIERRA LEONE: Sierra Leone to send back 500 detained Liberian fighters

The Turay administration has registered more new members in the four weeks Mr. Abraham Turay has been president than at any time or in any four-week period in the history of LIMANY. The amazing thing about most of the newcomers is that they are all long time New York residents who had been uninterested in, and reluctant to join any type of “Mandingo Organization.” All of the new members endorse the leadership of Mr. Turay and approve of the new direction taken by LIMANY’S board. Prosecutor Accuses Former Liberia Leader
The top prosecutor for Sierra Leone's war crimes court on Monday accused former Liberian President Charles Taylor of recruiting fighters in the country he once led and working to destabilize other West African nations. A spokesman for Taylor denied the allegations.

The Rational behind Tingba’s Outrage
It may seem silly and lowdown that some petty men will try to build their notoriety by devoting to discredit the notable and respectable characters of Nvasekie Konneh even if means self-destruction. That is exactly what I get since I have been following the recent debate between Vasiekie Konneh and Aagon Tingba and it mortify me that Tingba will divulge his hatred so publicly against people on mere ethnicity, yet still not realizing his own flaws.

ASSEMBLYMEN ADD "MORE GREASE" TO THEIR ELBOWS
Monrovia: While Civil Servants and the public are facing economic hardship, members of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (NTLA) have increased their monthly allowances in  continuation of their enjoyment.

Instead of receiving a monthly allowance of US$1,500, for each member of the assembly will now receive a monthly allowance of US$2,000 (of over 150,000 Liberian dollars) an increment of US$500.00.

UN awards peace medal to Chinese civilian police contingent in Liberia
MONROVIA, Sept. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- The United Nations Mission In Liberia (UNMIL) awarded UN Peace Medal to the Chinese Civilian Police Contingent on Friday in Monrovia for their performance in peacekeeping in Liberia.

LIBERIA: Resettlement of IDPs will start in November - UNHCR
MONROVIA, 24 Sep 2004 (IRIN) - An official drive to resettle about 300,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Liberia will start in November, a month after the programme to repatriate refugees living in other West African countries, Golam Abass, the deputy head of the UN refugee agency UNHCR in Liberia said on Friday.

TROUBLE BREWS IN NIMBA AGAIN - Gios, Manos, Maningos At Loggerhead

There are reports hat an inter-tribal conflict is gradually brewing in Nimba county between the Mandingos on the one hand, and the Manos and Gios, on the other, which requires the urgent intervention of the NTGL in order to bring this situation under control.

GHANA-LIBERIA: Agreement signed for repatriation of Liberian refugees in Ghana
ACCRA, 22 Sep 2004 (IRIN) - The government of Ghana signed an agreement with Liberia and the UN refugee agency UNHCR on Wednesday for the progressive repatriation of 42,000 Liberian refugees who have been living in the country for up to 14 years.

THE AKOSOMBO TALKS – HOW LONG WILL THE CIRCUS CONTINUE?

Peace Process in Danger
A faction of LURD loyal to Justice Minister Kabineh Ja’neh convened a news conference last Saturday to accuse Bryant of creating confusion and conflicts among the warring factions and therefore called on the international community to assist in his removal as head of the transitional coalition government.
