On July 25th, "The Women of Liberia: Fighting for Peace",
Miss Jackie Redd of Monrovia and Florence Ballah of Voinjama
took time out from their busy schedule to help pack shoes
for Liberia. The two hard working ladies who are in US to
launch the film “Women of Liberia: Fighting for Peace”
were very impressed and appreciative that US high school students
were networking with a US based Liberian organization, LIMANY
to send useful things to Liberia. As for Miss Mandy Xi, she
was amazed hearing about Liberian war stories from two women
who fought in the Liberia war. The two brave women explained
to Mandy that their reason for taking up arms, was for self-protection
after experiencing abuses from men and boys. "If need
be, we can kill just like men. We can also lead better than
them." Said Florence.

Miss Mandy Xi, the I-HELP Liberia Project coordinator, said
the I-HELP Liberia Project believe that a pair of shoes would
protect the body from some diseases as the people walk from
one point to another. “Through our partnership with
the Liberian Mandingo Association of New York, we managed
to ship 700 pairs of shoes to Liberia in 2007. This year's
goal is to double our efforts.”

Model Sang Kromah (in white) came to support the project.
Miss Kromah gave seventy 70 pairs of shoes start. She said
that she will solicit from her friends.

A Hunter College High School graduate, a Brown University
first year student, Mandy Xi with her sister Jan Xi, show
off the shoes they brought as Mr. Asumana Jabateh Randolph
looks on.
The goal of the shoe drive is to collect several pairs of
shoes that would cover the entire Hunter College High School
court yard, the size of three basketball courts.
