Liberia: The Aftermath of Bush’s Political Pilgrimage to Liberia-Dividend and Cynical Comments

Applicability of partisanship in blindly disparaging the success of a perceive opponent is not always a healthy democratic exercise with the recent visit of the head of the free world, “President George W. Bush” as guest of “President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf” being of no different, especially, in the wake of cynical comments that Bush visit was a failure and also an indictment of the President. But, here we gauge the issue from another angle.

Feb 4, 2008
Varfley A. Dolleh

In the wake of the reconciliatory decision in granting Executive Clemency to former Speaker George Koukou regarding his treasonable crime of sedition, nevertheless, many are apprehensive that it fell short in bridging the gap of total reconciliation by not ensuring that Dorbor and Julu are given a carte' blanch of freedom.
Weighing the trend of developments by the Ellen led Government in some fronts of the state of Nation, it was with utmost consternation when it was announced that the names mentioned supra, were involved in a heinous subversive activities in ousting the democratically elected government against the basic tenant of civility.

Bush's Political Pilgrimage to Liberia-A triumph For Sirleaf
Jan 29, 2008
Varfley A. Dolleh

One of the hall marks of civility is the actualization in being at peace with one self in calling a spade a spade, especially, in a political topography when an opponent excels, even if it is at your loathe, with the announced trip of the head of the free world, "President George W. Bush" as guest of honor of "President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf" being of no faux pas.

John Morlu Unceremonious voyage- A Candid Reflection
Jan 18, 2008
Varfley A. Dolleh

I don’t know the person John Morlu nor have I met him or interacted with him in any way necessary. But the fact is I am one of his secret admirers who have been following his lead in advocacy against corruptions and other negative vices in our new democracy.

Constitutionality of Minister Bropleh’s Statement
Jan 15, 2008
Varfley A. Dolleh

Historian will concord that, men have always resisted truth and demonize those who have stood for justice and equity, which has plunged nations in turmoil with the recent cogent statement of Information Minister receiving a negative feed backs from a cross section of the Christian Community which manifest this assertion. Suggesting the need of setting an exclusive date as a holiday for a specific religious entity is in no way a crime, but rather some thing in the right direction, especially, for a secular democracy.

My Indictment and Acquittal, The Untold Story
Jan 15, 2008
Varfley A. Dolleh

Corruption remains a cancerous maniac whose fight continues to be the focus of progressive governments with Liberia being of no different. Imbued with this spirit, when accused of involvement in financial embezzlement, there became the need to brawl in exonerating my self in a competent court of jurisdiction, in that, under our penal code, “one is presumed innocent of a charge until proven guilty”.

The TRC and the Mandingo Factor-A Mockery
Dec 11, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Opportune to have been selected as one of the guest speakers at a recent program in honor of a visiting commissioner of the "Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia", Ms. Oumu Syllah, held at the African Islamic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, under the auspices of Union of Former Students of the Moslem Congress High School of Monrovia, Liberia. Although, intended to help sensitize the Mandingo Community, mainly in getting involved in the Statement Taking Process, which is exceedingly esteemed. Nevertheless, I beseech to differ at the program for development against the Mandingo Community that I think are counter productive to the reconciliation process making it pointless for the community to get involved. I rest to be corrected being that I am human and susceptible to errors.

A litmus test for President Sirleaf
Nov 16, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

“President George W. Bush” preference of Liberia President as one of the recipients of the Nation’s highest award was a marvelous political landmark, a strategic and diplomatic milestone and a major enviable achievement among her peers, especially, being the only elected female President in black Africa. Although, not clothed with the authority to question the rational for her selection, but one thing is cardinal, political analysts are insinuating that it may be due mainly to her roles in fostering the American interests and the pro-active articulation of the American ideals and aspirations in Africa.

Bouncing Back Amidst Challenges
Oct 19, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Being off the limelight of politics in recent times as a result of illness has been problematic with many of our supporters calling in harmony with our situation, while on the other hand, our detractors have been pondering, “Whether or not we were going to resurface”? It is always the wishful thinking of one’s adversary to see a short life span of his perceive opponent, with my case being of no exception. Our recovery is coinciding with several unfolding events in the community and expected challenges.

Visualizing An Indigenous Administration -Synopsis of the Blue Prints
Oct 2, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

In the face of of cynics bad-mouthing concerning the inner motives of this consciousness drive for the indigenous, in spite of the unenthusiastic misinformation in discrediting our labors, mindful of the apprehensiveness being imbued as a result of character assassination equating our pains with failure and political bankruptcy, one thing is certain, we are untiring in cultivating our vision for the reincarnation of the indigenous supremacy reminisce of the period prior to the arrival of the settlers, necessitating the unearthing of a “Blue Print” for a future envisage Government led by natives in Liberia.

A rejoinder: The Re-emergence of the Americo-liberian Hegemony
Sep 30, 2007
Sekou Seasay

The asymmetrical nature and convexity of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s government towards a certain group, a “a rather narrow and selective pool”, using the words of Theodore T. Hodge or Americo-Liberians, as brother Varfley A. Dolleh puts it, seems, in all fairness, to be accepted, ab initio, by both individuals. …..
I must make it clear that the concept of the Americo-Liberian hegemony; the predominance of a unit of the citizenry (Americo-Liberians) in decision making, and the socio-politico structure is not synonymous with Americo-Liberian. This distinction is paramount, for we do not want to end up with the situation that merely transforms the oppressed and victimized into the transgressors.

Varfley’s Death and Legacy, A Reflection--Futuristic Trend is disconcerting
Sep 27, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

I am not agonized about the first night of solitary confinement in the wet and muddy grave with no companionship. I am not scared about the cries and the roll calls of people knew in this world for rescue from the mother of all confinement, but to no avail. I am not nervous about my first encounter with the angel of death and equity. However, what I am apprehensive and concerned about is the legacy left behind and the futuristic trend of the “Mandingo Nation” following our demise and subsequent burial. This is the real issue. What will happen to the people? Whether or not our people will be able to uphold the consciousness? Whether or not the messages through our writings not to give in will be up held? These are the real issues.

Effects of the Americo-Liberian Syndrome on the Indigenous-A Dilemma, Mandingoes As Case Study
Sep 22, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Political actors on the both ends of the divide, especially, from the aboriginal perspectives on the one hand, and the Americo-Liberians on the other hand, have been at each other throats in recent days trying to justify the merits and demerits of their actions, in the aftermath of the publication of an article, “The Reemergence of the Americo-Liberians Hegemony,” specifically, the pre and post 1980 epoch of the both political entities, necessitating an attempt in meticulously reconciling the both segments of the society, with the “Mandingoes” specifically being used as a case study.

Reemergence of the Americo-Liberian Hegemony, an Addendum - Facing Theodore T. Hodge and Others
What will be wrong with simply unearthing what I think are the shortcomings of the present dispensation in Liberia? I thought people should be happy that we are venting out our dislikes through the might of the pen and not gun. What is wrong with telling our compatriots how polarize is the Ellen Government? What is wrong with calling some one an Americo-Liberian or Congo? Is it not true that people have segmented themselves under that classification? What the big deal affirming what they have been saying over the years? ......
Although, not substantiated, we are told that the present Managing Director, Hon. Tubman, who happen to be an Americo-Liberian had vowed not to allow an indigenous, especially, a Mandingo man to be his immediate boss. As a result it was agreed to have Musa Bility removed and replace with an Americo-Liberian as his replacement.

Thanking President George W. Bush
Sep 14, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Whether or not it was a coincidence is left for public speculation, but one thing is generally accepted, in the dying minutes of the expiration of the Temporary Protective Status (TPS), we added our voice to the thunderous cries of advocates calling and appealing to the USA President for a reprieve in order to allow thousands of Liberians on the program a respite avoiding deportation. Amidst the state of precariousness, we received the favorable news as anticipated necessitating a commendation to the US President.

Dashing the Hope of Thousands of Liberians - An Appeal to President Bush
Sep 11, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

In the wake of the pending removal of the thousands of Liberians on the Temporary Protective Status (TPS), granted as result of the aftermath of the despicable civil war in Liberia, it is only prudent that we add our voice to the hundreds of advocates calling and appealing to President George W. Bush for a reprieve in ensuring that the deportation proceeding is not effected as we awaits the expiration date.

The Death of A Political Messiah, The Case With G. Baccus Mathew - Legacies left behind
Sep 10, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Reminiscence of the Great Soviet Union, where, Former President Mackhiel Gobarchov introduced “Glasnost and Perestroika” leading to the removal of the Iron Curtain; retrospection of the “Berlin Wall” in East Germany, during the heat of the “Cold War” dismantled as a result of the people power’s, although, foreign, but akin to this great son of the soil, an emancipator of the natives, the man who brought about enlightenment. This is the man who courageously fought leading to the dismantling of the “Americo-Liberian Hegemony”. This is the man whose death is vibrating thunderous cries everywhere. What are the legacies left behind as he embarks on his heavenly journey?

Lessons learned and Doers? An Analysis

It was with mixed apprehension and relief when news circulated that renowned war Lord and controversial “Senator Prince Y. Johnson” was embarking on a peace diplomacy in the USA, geared toward resolving the in house feud with in the “United Nimba Congress of the USA”, especially, being one of the proponents of the Civil Crisis contributed immensely in the killing of famous Nimbains, especially, the Gios and Manos. Who are some of those prominent Nimbians killed and the legacy left behind? Who are the main culprits in this heinous and despicable crime? Why did Prince Y. Johnson fail to come? These are the unanswered questions in this scholarly work.

The Burden of Proof, An Indispensability
Sep 4, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Under criminal law, the burden of proof lies with the accuser, which must be proven beyond all reasonable doubt in order to find an accused culpable in a competent court of jurisdiction, with the ongoing treason trial involving General Charles Julu and Former Speaker George Koukou being of no exception. In the wake of the new twist from the Government most tangible “State Witness” public opinion is now questioning the plausibility of the entire alleged coupe amidst the Dorbor’s bombshell. While we refuse to take side under ethical considerations, but the unfolding development from the criminal court put one in a state of precariousness while awaiting litigation of the alleged treasonable crime.

The Re-emergency of the Americo-Liberian Hegemony
Sep 2, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Recent appointments in Government is infusing mixed signal about the President’s acclaimed commitment and strive in reconciling among the indigenous on the one hand, and the Americo-Liberian minority on the other hand, making one to ponder if whether this President is committed in bridging the gap between the both segment of the society.
Momoh Dudu: “Well over 60% of her cabinet and cabinet level positions are manned by the Americos who, according to our last census, make up only 5% of the population.”

Musa Ability’s New Chairmanship, A Demotion or Elevation?
Aug 29, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Musa Bility has been a staunch and dedicated friend of the President who went extra miles during the heat of the campaign along with other prominent Mandingoes in advocating for the Presidency of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He was greatly fought by the community for calling on Mandingoes to pledge their support and cast their ballots for the President. He defended the platform of the President to the Mandingo Community amidst opposition. He is noted to have used his vast media empire both radio and television in selling the ideals of the Ellen Campaign.

“Mandingoes Profiling,” An Abomination
Aug 25, 2007
Varfly A. Dolleh

Despite the aristocratic nature of my people, despite our role in the establishment of Liberia, despite our contribution in the development of the socio-politico and economic formation, we are not treated with equity, as it is reciprocated to others. This is a burning issue that needs solutions if we are to make progress.

Land Reform in Monrovia, A Compulsion
Aug 17, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

It is a corruption for few people to claim ownership to the “Education, Commerce, Justice Ministries and few others buildings”. Even if it is not said, but the reality is they took government money and surreptitiously claim ownership to these properties. How was this made possible? How much were they being paid allowing them to generate such an amount to build those building? Let no one play on the sentiment of the Liberians.

On This Score, Madame President, I Beg to Differ
Aug 17, 2007
Momoh Sekou Dudu

Instead of “bringing back law and order”, Beatrice Munah Sieh is orchestrating chaos after chaos. It appears the once vaunted Director of Police has a penchant for missteps. I am beginning to wonder as to whether power has had an intoxicating effect on her. From her infamous threatening of Moslem women against wearing their religious veils which she malignly associated with terrorism, to her recent ambushing of the Seaport Police, Colonel Sieh appears determined to introduce a police state in Liberia. As our nation gradually returns to normalcy, we do not have the luxury to accommodate discordant, inept, and reckless government officials. We have way too much at stake.

Dismiss Police Director Beatrice Muna Sieh Now

Police Director Sieh reign has brought nothing but disrepute in the force. And we also seriously believe that she is polarized with ethnic sentiment against Mandingoes.

“Collective Guilt of the Mandingoes,” A Nerve-racking Signal
Aug 13, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Unanswered Questions:

Where are we heading as Liberian in the wake of our deep-seated hatred against a particular group of people? Why didn’t the people of Nimba County go against the family of Hon. George Koukou when it was announced that he was involved in subversive activities? Why didn’t the Grand Gedean go after the family of Gen. Charles Julu when his name was mentioned with the subversive plot? I might not be around, but I am worry about the future, especially, the brute dislike and monstrous machination to annihilate a particular group of people.

Charles Taylor perturbs in Hell fire
Aug 11, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

When it was announced that fugitive Charles Ghakey Taylor, was to seek asylum in Nigeria, little did he know that it was the beginning of his end amidst the euphoria that despite the overwhelming fire power and advances of the invading LURD Forces, he wasn’t militarily defeated out rightly by Sekou Damate Konneh, ceremoniously afforded the opportunity as a state man to fly in the specially arranged Presidential jet with President Olusugon Obansagon of Nigeria. It was with extravagant pageantry in that he took with him million of dollars in cash, thousands, of shirts, shoes and personal belongings, including tens of his social concubines, plus, few of his luxuries cars that includes “humvees and Mercedes Benzes”.

Microscopic Deciphering of the “Ellen’s Presidency”-Short falls and Achievements
Aug 6, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

Amidst your probable dislike for Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, despite your reasonable tangibility in opposing her doesn’t matter any longer, especially, in the wake of the fact that indeed, she won the first election in post war Liberia, that she is the first female to excelled democratically in Africa;..

But, the question is, where are we developmentally? What are the short falls and achievements thus far, as we unravel the puzzles? What are the prospects for the future? These are the concerns as we embark upon this intellectual expose.

Religious Diplomacy, a Plus Madam President
In consonance with the spirit of religious tolerance and adherence to “Article 14 of the Constitution of Liberia,” regarding the secularity of Liberia as a Nation State, equitability in the treatment of divergent religious denominations, it was with admiration and unwavering applause your bold and courageous visits of the various “Mosques, ”a new precedent in post war Liberia. Indeed, we interpose no objection in joining the thousands of Muslims in saluting you for symbolic manifestation of religious tolerance.

Superficiality of “Earnest Karba’s thoughts,” On the Mandingoes Ordeal
Cruising to work few days ago, a friend of mine from Minnesota who happened to be from the Gio tribe, but up-front and sober in perception informed me that there was a superficial piece on the web, by some pseudo non-entity claiming to be “Earnest Karba,” dismally attempting to undo history in trying to dispute my accounts of the “Mandingoes Ordeal” during the Liberian Civil War. I had initially decided not to response, but the “Mandingo Community” that I represent through popular demand urged me to clarify some of the diabolical concoctions susceptible in aborting historical realities that touch their hearts, minds and souls.

Culpability of Julu, Koukou and Others, ...the need for cautious approach
With an imbedded force of over fifteen thousand cracked soldiers of the “united Nation Peace Keeping Force, thousands of police and other security organs of the “Liberian Government,” it would appear inconceivable and suicidal for some one to perceive the idea of ousting the “legitimate and international acclaimed Government” of “President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf,” even, if there were short falls, resurrecting the debate of culpability and the plausibility of the charges of subversive activities which is a treasonable crime, punishable by death if convicted or at least presidential clemency following long jail term.

Taylor’s Genocide, the Mandingo Ordeal and Compensation- A Rebuttal By Ernest Karbah
Thanks for the space in your popular online magazine. I strongly disagree and will countered term it as a “refutable probability” that of the “two hundred fifty thousands” casualties of war in Liberia, over “one hundred thousand” were Mandingoes as alleged by Mr. Varfley A. Dolleh. Show me your evidence and I will hold your feet in submission.

Taylor’s Genocide, The Mandingo Ordeal and Compensation
Jul 21, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

It is an irrefutable probability that over “two hundred fifty thousands” “Liberians and non-Liberians alike were killed” during the despotic Taylor’s military crusade, of which over “hundred thousands” were of the “Mandingo tribe” making one to surmise that it was a well orchestrated vicious, malicious, criminal and diabolical machination to have the “Mandingoes” decimated with no trace of existence on their fathers’ land, as we microscopically decipher the war, their re-emergence as a formidable force and the rationalization for a just compensation by the aggressors for the pain and suffering meted on them..

Usurpation of Mandingo Lands, A threat to National Security-Nimba County as a Case Study
Jul 14, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

As an emerging political actor, I learned in one of my “Graduate Classes” in “International Diplomacy” at the “university of Liberia” that land is one of the fundamental and tangible elements of power and remains a recipe for past and present conflicts, ranging from the “Palestinian and Israelis conflict, the Pakistani and Indian War, the Iraq and Kuwaiti War, the Falkland War, among others, with Liberia being of no exception, especially, in the wake of the “Scramble for Land” in Nimba County, with the “Mandingoes versus the Gio and Manos”, considered by analyst as a catalyst for conflict and a threat to “National Security of Liberia.”

Retrospection of the “Barkidu Massacre,” The True Story
Jul 10, 2007
Varfley A. Dolleh

As we commemorate the 17th anniversary of the infamous “Barkidu Massacre”, it must be noted that it is both worldly and Godly reality, that while it true that millions of Liberians and non -Liberians suffered as a result of the despicable, heinous, vicious, and diabolical military adventurism of Charles Taylor, little did the religious people of “Barkidu” hypothesize that this religious beckon of “Lofa County”, the enviable Islamic center, vibrant and enterprising town would have been targeted leading to the massacre of hundreds innocent “Mandingoes”, including women children, and the elderly with out any justifiable reasons.
